On September 23, 2011, Sony Pictures will be releasing a big-budget popcorn movie called Anonymous. As blogged on this page, the movie tells the tale of Edward de Vere as "Shakespeare" -- parts of which will be highly fictionalized, of course.
And so for the first time in history, a broad cross-section of the moviegoing public will be open to hearing out the factual story of Edward de Vere's epic life. And already primed for the many connections between his life and the Shakespeare plays and poems.
This is the (brief) opportunity that Nothing Is Truer Than Truth is poised to seize.
Filmmaker Cheryl Eagan-Donovan needs to raise $12,000 by December 1 to fund the final phase of her film -- shooting at the many Italian locations immortalized in the Shakespeare canon.

There are a few reasons to be apprehensive about the upcoming "Anonymous" movie. First of all, from the standpoint of the authorship debate, I imagine it would be difficult to explain the circumstantial case for De Vere in movie form. It's diffucult as it is in book form, because most people are not familiar with Elizabethan English. Then you have the fact that many of Roland Emmerich's movies have been overblown and trite. "The Day After Tomorrow" and "Independence Day" were only fair movies in terms of plot and character development. But at least they delivered in terms of action and special effects, supposedly Emmerich's strong points. With "Anonymous" Emmerich is charting new territory. Can he create an interesting and convincing case that De Vere was the author of the plays attributed to Will Shaksper? Finally, the movie will argue that De Vere was Queen Elizabeth's child and that they also had a child of their own. While I am receptive to this theory, many Oxfordians are not, and this part of the story will be used by Stratfordians to attack the entire authorship case for De Vere. So Emmerich is giving the ammunition to the Strats... Can Emmerich overcome all this? I sure as heck hope so.
As of 12:20 p.m. eastern on Dec. 1.... it's NEXT STOP, VENICE! The documentary is now fully funded!
